MISSION AND OUTREACH

Mission is at the heart of God and is what the church is called to embrace. Mission is a response to Christís gospel that calls believers to both speak and be the good news in our world.

At West Flamboro, we not only feel the need to DO for others, but to REACH OUT to our local community, our neighbours in the greater Hamilton area, our country and the world.

Some examples of how we do these include:

FOOD BANK SUNDAYS: monthly collections of food for the Dundas Food Bank. (Click on the photo below to enlarge it, then use your Browser's "BACK" button to return to this page.)

INNER CITY OUTREACH: WFPC is participates actively in Community Support events at the Eva Rothwell Centre on Wentworth Street in the East end of Hamilton. Two major activities are the Wednesday night Teen Zone, and the Thursday Seniors luncheons as well as other special events throughout the year. See the report further below on this page for more details.

Besides our regular Sunday Childrenís Worship Time, we offer KIDS DAY OUT (a daytime program for junior school aged children) several times a year. For one summer week this is expanded to FRIENDSHIP CAMP, when we bring kids from the inner city to share worship and learning about Godís Great Love with our local children.

In May 2013, we hosted our 1st BBQ AND PERENNIAL SWAP, a non-fundraising COMMUNITY event This was a great morning of sharing and socializing!

FUN & FELLOWSHIP: This involves social gatherings of all kinds from corn roasts to travelogues and almost always includes food of some kind! One important function that this group has done for a few years is sponsoring a Haitian child through Compassion Canada.

The Helen G. Mullin WOMENS MISSIONARY SOCIETY (WMS) meets monthly to study missions around the world. They raise funds to support various projects. Some of the more recent projects include:

    - home baked cookies donated to the McMaster Chaplaincy Office for distribution to McMaster students during exam times

    - Christmas "goodies" for church members, shut-ins and those who are ill

    - contributions to various National WMS Mission Projects. In 2013 the WMS supported the Caribou Ministry Project in British Comumbia.

Many of our members work with the WESTOVER LAYETTE LADIES who make and distribute diapers, blankets, washcloths, clothing and other items to the needy in places such as Haiti, Guatemala, Malawi, Sierra Leone, and Dominican Republic, just to name a few. See the "Photo Galleries" page for more photos of the Ladies working. (Click on the pictures below to enlarge them, then use your browser's "BACK" button to return to this page.)

We have periodically been involved in INTERNATIONAL MISSION TRIPS. Teams have travelled to Mexico, Haiti, and most recently the Dominican Republic.

West Flamboro is striving to be a MISSIONAL CHURCH. Besides our church sponsored outreach projects, support is given to many individuals involved in various volunteer positions.

We have an active MISSION AND OUTREACH TEAM who is always looking for more members or just ideas of ways to reach out to others. If you are interested in participating, would like more information about any of the above, or would like to suggest a new project, please let us know.

WFPC IS VERY ACTIVE IN HAMILTON'S INNER CITY OUTREACH AT THE EVA ROTHWELL CENTRE ON WENTWORTH ST. N.

"TEEN ZONE" on Wednesday evening features many volunteers from WFPC.

WFPC's Carol Brown organizes the Seniors Luncheon on Thursdays. Seniors from the Hamilton Inner City area enjoy a warm meal of soup, sandwiches and dessert and enjoy a grand time of socializing.

Inner City Outreach are always looking for volunteers for all of the programs, so if Teens or Thursday lunches arenít what appeals to you as a potential volunteer, there are lots of other opportunities.
